How Word Count Is Calculated

All text is billed in 1,000-word blocks, rounded up to the nearest 1,000 words.

  • Text up to 1,599 words is billed as one 1,000-word block.

  • Text from 1,600 to 2,000 words is billed as two 1,000-word blocks.

How Pricing Works

Short-form content carries a higher per-word rate to allow for a careful first pass so I can understand your voice, style, and specific requirements.

Long-form content and ongoing work are priced per project, factoring in length, complexity, and editorial depth, with lower per-word rates reflecting increased efficiency over time.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Your questions answered so you know what to expect

Do you offer a guarantee for your work?

Yes. For long-form projects, you’ll receive a sample of the edited work before the final invoice. This allows you to request adjustments and confirm that the edits are aligned with your expectations.

My goal is to ensure that you're satisfied with the editing process before making the final payment.

If after receiving your edited draft, you have serious concerns about the quality of the completed work, you’re welcome to get in touch within 30 days to discuss a partial or full refund.

What are your payment methods?

I accept all major credit and debit cards, with payments processed securely through Stripe. International clients are welcome, and currency conversion is handled automatically by your bank or card provider.

How do you handle ongoing work like blog posts, email newsletters, or video scripts?

For regular, time-sensitive content, you can reserve a dedicated block of my time each week, every other week, or each month.

Before starting, we’ll agree on an approximate word count for each piece (with a margin of around 1,000 words) and the frequency (weekly, biweekly, or monthly).

Then I can calculate a monthly retainer that guarantees my availability and keeps your content on a predictable schedule so there are no surprises for either of us.

The first piece in the series is billed at the short-form rate (US$50 per 1,000 words).

This helps me become familiar with your writing style and assess the expected complexity and level of editorial input required.

Each subsequent post is billed according to its agreed word count, using the rate for ongoing work (from US$35 per 1,000 words, as outlined in the Pricing section).

Payment for the upcoming month is due on the first Monday. You can adjust your schedule or content priorities as needed, keeping your content strategy flexible and free of surprises.

What if I need additional work after editing has started?

Small clarifications and brief follow-up questions are always welcome.

However, if the scope of the project changes (for example, if new sections are added, significant revisions are made, or additional rounds of editing are requested), I may need to provide a revised quote.

I’ll always discuss any changes with you before proceeding so everything stays clear and predictable.

Do you format references and citations?

Yes. I can format references and in-text citations according to The Chicago Manual of Style (CMOS), Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA), and the Australian Government Style Manual (Style Manual).

If you’re writing for a specific publication, I’m happy to follow their house style or submission guidelines.

The formatting of references and citations is billed at US$50 (NZ$85) per 1,000 words.
